Connect ChatGPT — OpenAI's AI assistant — to your Watching That data, so you can ask questions about delivery, revenue, fill rate and errors in plain English. ChatGPT connects to the Watching That MCP Server as a custom MCP app (created in developer mode). You sign in with your normal Watching That login.

1. An active Watching That platform account — you'll sign in with your normal Watching That credentials during setup

2. Your Watching That MCP server URL — provided by your Customer Success representative (or support@watchingthat.com). It follows this pattern:

   https://mcp.<instance>.watchingthat.us/

   where <instance> is specific to your organisation (some organisations use the shared address https://mcp.watchingthat.us/). Your CS team will confirm the exact URL. Use it exactly as given, ending in /: don't add /mcp or /sse to the end. The connection will fail if you do.

3. A ChatGPT plan that supports custom MCP apps: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu, used via the web at chatgpt.com. If you don't see Developer mode in Settings, your plan or your workspace admin doesn't allow it.

If you're on a personal Plus or Pro plan, you can connect directly — no admin required.

1. Log in at chatgpt.com

2. Open Settings → Security and login

3. Turn on Developer mode

1. Go to ChatGPT Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins)

2. Click the + button to create a new app

3. Fill in the details:

   • Name: Watching That

   • Description: Video advertising analytics from Watching That. Use this to query ad delivery, revenue, errors, fill rate, and other video ad metrics. (ChatGPT uses this text to decide when to use the app, so keep it descriptive.)

   • Connection: paste the MCP server URL from your Customer Success team. If ChatGPT asks for a connection method, choose the public URL option, not Tunnel.

   • Authentication: select OAuth. Leave the client ID and client secret empty — the Watching That server handles this automatically.

4. Click Create. You'll be redirected to Watching That — sign in with your Watching That credentials and approve the connection.

5. ChatGPT then scans the server and lists the available Watching That tools.

1. Start a new chat, open the + menu in the message composer, choose Developer mode, and toggle on Watching That

2. Ask a question like: "Using the Watching That app, what data sources do I have access to?"

On company workspaces, custom MCP apps are managed by workspace admins: an admin or owner creates and tests the app, then publishes it so everyone in the workspace can use it. Individual members cannot add custom apps themselves.

1. An admin or owner opens Workspace Settings → Permissions & Roles → Connected Data and turns on developer mode (creating custom MCP connectors) for the workspace

2. The admin then turns on Developer mode for themselves under Settings → Security and login

3. Enterprise/Edu only: admins can also grant developer mode to specific members or roles in the same place

1. Go to Workspace settings → Apps → Create

2. Enter the same details as in the individual setup above: name Watching That, a description, the MCP server URL from your CS team, and OAuth authentication

3. Click Scan Tools — you'll be prompted to sign in to Watching That to authorise the connection; complete the login, then wait for the scan to finish

4. Click Create. The app is saved as a draft

1. Open a new chat, choose Developer mode from the + menu, and turn on the draft Watching That app

2. Try a few prompts, e.g. "What data sources do I have access to?" — see the MCP Server Reference for more examples

1. An admin/owner goes to Workspace Settings → Apps → Drafts, clicks Publish, reads the safety notice and confirms

2. Enterprise/Edu admins can optionally limit the app to specific groups and turn individual tools on or off

3. Once published, Watching That appears in every member's apps with a custom label. Each member signs in with their own Watching That credentials the first time they use the app — access follows each user's own Watching That account.

• Name the app in your prompt, especially in early conversations — e.g. "Using the Watching That app, show me fill rate by demand partner for the last 7 days." ChatGPT doesn't always choose custom tools over its built-in ones unless you're explicit.

• Use a normal chat with Developer mode turned on. Choose Developer mode from the + menu and turn on Watching That for the conversation.

• Web only. Custom MCP apps aren't available in the ChatGPT mobile apps yet.

• The Watching That MCP Server is read-only — it queries your analytics data and never changes anything in your account. If ChatGPT asks you to confirm a Watching That action, approving it won't change anything.

• Check key numbers. ChatGPT writes the answer; Watching That supplies the data. Check important numbers in the platform before acting on them.

• If the connection fails straight away, check that the URL ends in .us/ and has no /mcp on the end.

• If your connection stops working, re-authenticate by disconnecting and reconnecting the app — you'll be taken back through the Watching That login.
