Introduction
The Analysis module allows users to query the raw data provided to Watching That in realtime, producing interactive and insightful reports and visualisations.
This tool is ideal for quickly checking some data, supporting troubleshooting or prototyping visualisations for Reports widgets.
This module is typically used by all Watching That users but most of all by individuals with day-to-day oversight of ad serving data.
Getting Started
Analysis is accessed through the navigation bar at the top of the page. This page will show you all the saved explorations in your organisation. From here you can create a new one, or duplicate an existing one you wish to edit.
Key Features
Creating an Exploration
Once you have selected + Add Exploration, you will be given a blank slate to build your analysis as you wish. The data available is the previous 7 days from the current date. Like with the widgets in the Reports module, Metrics and Dimensions are the primary variables for building your report. When selecting your Dimensions, be mindful of how much you wish to break the data down by. You are able to chose the top x values or select specific values. To adjust these, simply click on the dimension and you will be shown the below panel to make the selections you wish.
You are also able to apply Filters for any field, even if it is not a selected dimension. For example you wish to see the breakdown of impressions delivered across Genres, but only want to filter on CTV devices.
Once you have selected your exploration’s settings, there a four visualisations that you can chose from.
Visualisations
Table View
The table view is a standard tabulated view of the data selected. This is useful when dealing with large datasets featuring multiple Dimensions and Metrics.
Pivot Table View
The Pivot Table view pivots your dimensions into collapsable and expandble views. In the below example Site and Site Section are selected, with the first Site being expanded to show the breakdown of impressions and requests for that Site as well as the total.
A useful feature in the Pivot Table view is the quick filter button next to each row on the dimensions. Selecting this will immediately add that field and value to the Exploration’s filters.
Timeline View
To use this view, you must select an option from the Time Intervals. This view allows you to plot one metric over time, broken down by one dimension. The example below shows Impressions plotted hourly broken down by the top 5 Genres. Timeline View allows you to customise the visualisation by plotting the data as a line, dashed line, areas, or as a bar chart.
Correlation Table View
This view is most useful when you are trying to plot a single metric across two dimensions to analyse if there is a relationship. This is a really effective view when analysing eCPM across your network.
Formulas
The Analysis Module lets you build on your standard metrics by crafting formulas with them. In this example a basic fill rate is created.
Conditional Formatting
For certain visualisations (Pivot Table and Table) you can apply conditional formatting rules that can either Change the colour of the text or Hide values based on conditions .
Metric Filtering
Filtering can be Exploration wide OR it can be applied to a specific metric. This is useful for analysis between different samples/cohorts of the same metric.
Things To Watch Out For
Exporting Explorations
To export your explore, select the download icon on the right hand side of the screen. This will export a .xlsx version of our file.
Saving Explorations
To save an Exploration, select the save icon on the right hand side of the screen. This will save the exploration to the platform for future use by yourself or any other user in your organisation.
FAQs
Q: Can I create custom formulas in Analysis?
A: Formula functionality is something we're actively working on and plan to bring to the Analysis module in a future update. We're excited about making this available and will share more as it becomes ready, stay tuned!
Q: What kind of data can I see in Analysis?
A: Analysis gives you access to raw event level data based on the retention period included in your account. This allows you to explore recent performance for deep dives, quick checks, or building early-stage visualisations.
Q: Example question that you have received from customers
A: recommendation
Q: How do I export my analysis?
A: Click the download icon in the top right to export your exploration as an Excel (.xlsx) file.
Q: Will my saved explorations be visible to others?
A: Yes. Saved explorations are shared across your organisation, so other users can open and reuse them unless access is restricted via platform roles.
